Being a mother, I think this clip provides all aspects of horror; a normal woman would not like to go through. The flick direction and cinematography were neat and quite realistic. Although the story might be predictable, the acting brought new perspective on this weird subject having a strange child with even more strange needs”. You can see the strong wish of the mother to keep the baby, giving all of her to the child. Emotionally, physically. Piece by piece. A classic fight of generations, little of selfishness too, fights without a personal barrier. I did not feel good watching this flick. Horrifying child, mother capable to do anything gave me the creeps. But I could not stop myself watching it till the end, which can provide an interesting material for a sequel.

Black Ice

A young woman on the run from a murderous government agent hooks up with a taxi drive who reluctantly agrees to help her. Pretty bad flick. Catch it on cable if you must

Austin Chick has done wonders with “XX/XY”. It’s almost as though he is working in solving a mathematical equation. In the process, he makes us follow the three principals, Coles, Maya and Thea throughout almost ten years to see what become of the characters. Mr. Chick is a film maker in tune with young people, their language, their interplay, and their sexual discoveries.In securing the services of Mark Ruffalo for the pivotal role of Coles, the director is blessed as well with wonderful performances all around. Mr. Ruffalo has become one of the best actors working in the American cinema. He always bring such an intensity to everything he does, but in a subtle and quiet way. We always know what’s going on with this man because he expresses everything with gestures that are always right. There’s never a moment wrong in Mr. Ruffalo’s portrayal of Coles.The story begins in 1993 as the original friends, Coles, Thea and Maya explore their sexual awakenings in unorthodox ways. Coles is the man who lusts after both room mates, but it’s obvious that Maya is the one that gets the best of him until their separation.As the story turns to the present time. We see Coles in a relationship with Claire, the ‘together’ young woman who seems secure enough with Coles never to pressure him into a marriage, because she feels he is committed to staying with her. Their life together suddenly takes a spin with the reemergence of Maya, who has been away in London all these years. Her presence unravels Coles to the point of betrayal to Claire. It is Claire who gets the last laugh as she confronts Coles to tell him how ahead of the game she really is.The last scene is enigmatic. We watch Coles and Claire standing by the door. Coles is trying to hold it open, but Claire succeeds in closing it, and as a chapter in their relationship has ended.The two principals, Maya Strange, as Sam, and Kathleen Robertson, as Thea, are excellent as the college girls that love to have fun. However, one has a feeling that it’s Petra Wright, who plays Claire, that gives the strongest performance. Ms. Wright has a luminous aura about her; she overshadows the others. One realizes that Coles needs her and she loves him.Bravo to Austin Chick for a job well done.

Hello! First, let me say that thanks to Issa Lopez, Warner Brothers Pictures performed its first production in Mexico when they bought “Efectos Secundarios”. And I think that is something that we must recognize all Mexicans.Replying the previous comment, I think it is extremely illogical that Issa Lopez, has offended the Mexicans when she made “Casi Divas” and even more so with the fact that she is a woman and Mexican. Therefore, I don’t understand the aim from comments like…”So Issa ridicules the majority of women and paints as many people abroad think that Mexico is, a place of marginalized, uneducated, naive and corrupt and useless mentally.” The film industry in our country is in progress, the Mexican film has had great successes and recognition thanks to people like Issa Lopez, who has put the name of Mexico in the film industry.Casi Divas, it’s a comedy that shows us a very big reality. Yes, it is a reality. It’s a movie, and like all movies, can’t be displayed exactly as things are, you have to bring a touch of humor, drama, surprise,etc. that otherwise, would be somewhat boring. And I should mention that this is the second production in Mexico at Columbia Pictures, another merit for Issa Lopez, who also participated in “Nias Mal”, which was the first production at Columbia Pictures in our country.Beyond being a comedy, Casi Divas gives us a glance or a reminder of what happens in Cd. Juarez with the endless killings of women, discrimination or living Indians of different ethnicities in our country, and why not, also the rejection suffered by people with different preferences or changes in their sexuality, corruption of the rich and powerful. Perhaps it isn’t something that we can feel proud, but it’s a reality that we live and we can see reflected in a film that has been wrote years ago and now it’s a dream come true from Issa Lopez.To me, this film is excellent and is not for ridicule anyone, and we didn’t see us like marginalized, uneducated, naive, corrupt and useless mentally. As previously mentioned.
